Another Easter at The Bunya's

We spent another Easter Sunday at The Bunya's, this time without Drewy :( He skyped to say Happy Easter.
We took up a morning tea of home made biccies (thanks Meg), basil dip and hot tea. After some discussion, we decided to walk the Barkers Creek Circuit, a distance of approx. 9km. Meg wasn't too keen but was cajoled (forced) into it.

We were a group of 5 as we had a house guest for the weekend, Maryanne from the Surat property. Yes, same name as me and even spells it the same. She's a Kiwi.

We set off at a brisk pace....and didn't let up all the way 'round. In places I felt that if we increased the pace just a little, we'd be running!! I didn't quite know what was going on. Gibbo started leading then Chris took over and I had a job keeping up at times! There was no looking at scenery and barely time for a photo - the ground was wet underfoot and sloppy in places so we really had to watch where we were going. It was like an ultra marathon!

Here was a good excuse to take a breather while we debated how far we'd come and how far we had to go as the numbers didn't seem to quite add up!

We also managed to stop briefly at a waterfall and take a few pics. Gibbo said we needed to get closer to the waterfall so we leant over a bit but that didn't really work.

Here's some fungus and toadstools I just managed to capture as we flew past!

This bridge through the tree was really impressive; I don't recall seeing it before? We didn't stop for long as the end was in sight.
Home at last! It became almost comical at the end - we were overtaking other groups of people in a formation reminiscent of a series of jointed train carriages (well that's how it looked from the back!). Up the side of the track then back onto the main walking pad. People stopped and watched us as we hurried past. I had to put my hand over my mouth to stop from laughing out loud; it was really funny. Hey guys, what's the rush?? I have no doubt at all that Chris will traverse the Overland Track with his Dad next January in less than the recommended days!
For lunch we had steakburgers from my friend Jenny's tent - she's the girl who is walking the Simpson Desert in June to raise funds for a charity. Helping her was Teifi, who I haven't seen in 29 years!!! I couldn't have told you the last time I saw her except her husband said it was at our mutual friend G's 21st - and as he turns 50 this year, that's quite a lot of years ago.

From there, Meg talked us into ice-creams so we stood and watched these two while we ate. The joey just sat inside and poked his head out now and again to see what was happening - and when his mum leant over to eat, he nibbled on the grass while relaxing in the pouch! Must be a boy hey Drewy?

We had a really nice day up there although I was conscious that one of us was missing, especially when we came home past the Reserve and the toilets where we stopped last year. It was a picture of Drew, taken here, that was included in the application for Canada. Here it is again. Lookin' good Drewy.
