Danger in the Grass

12 gauge -1; snake - 0.

Luckily we still have two dogs and one cat - oh, and one daughter. Who knows what she was thinking as the cat approached the snake to have a closer look. Poofy was going off his brain; Coco was getting involved. You can yell at a dog and make it come away; you can't yell at an inquisitive cat and make it come to you (or a daughter who wants to save the cat for that matter).

Gibbo was armed with a rack from the bbq (the only thing he could find in his rush along the verandah to see what all the commotion was about). God knows what he planned on doing with it - maybe he planned on cooking the snake - although he did use it to steer the cat back to Megan. She grabbed it and took the dogs into the house and mixed up the two sets of eggs in the process! I remember hearing a little voice say, "oh, I've mixed up the eggs". It's funny now.

I dashed back to the house to grab the 12 gauge and a shell - result, 1 dead snake and a hole in the ground.

One should remember that even though the lousy jacks and mickey miners are noisy, lice ridden birds, they are also excellent watchdogs - and one should always take notice when they go off their rockers.
