Two Tanks

Our two new tanks arrived early yesterday morning. The small one is for the house, to provide us with just that little bit of extra backup (the house runs off rain water). The big one is to go beside the existing concrete one at the top of the farm as our second major stockwater storage.

My brother Peter came out to help with the levelling. He has experience in this sort of thing.

They stopped to discuss the state of play in the second Ashes test with Australia in a commanding position. I yawned.

Walking the little tank to it's resting place.

Jamie came to help with the siting of the tanks. Meg helped with settling the crusher dust by spraying it (and spraying the people).

The small tank was easily moved into place. Gibbo drilled a hole in the bottom for the outlet fitting. I climbed inside to put the fitting in place and hold it while it was tightened from the outside. It was easy getting in, not so easy getting out but G dragged me up and out of the hole.

The big tank presented a few more problems. We took a ladder up there so that I could climb up the side, lift the ladder up and drop it inside the tank, climb in, fix the fitting, climb back up the ladder, lift it up and out and climb down. The only problem was that the ladder started narrow and widened to the point where it wouldn't fit down the hole past the fourth rung. So no go there. G and Jamie ended up rigging up a piece of rope with the fitting tied on the end and dropped it down to the hole.

G will feel better once both tanks are full, not that we've had any shortage since buying the farm but it's one job he has really wanted to get done. Now to plumb them and fill them.
