Coal to Newcastle

There's a couple of sayings that could describe Gibbo's good fortune the weekend before last when he played cricket. He won a meat tray. "Coal to Newcastle" - "Ice to Eskimos" spring to mind. However, it was gladly received especially when I saw there was some lamb and pork in it. He scored 42 runs, took 3 wickets for 22, won Man of the Match, drew himself in the multi-draw something or other and then, to top it all off, he won a meat tray!!!
The weekend just gone didn't yield such a happy ending. He scored 39 runs and took 1 wicket for 43. The team scored 349 runs - and lost. Over 700 runs were scored in total and 18 wickets fell. Cricket was the winner on the day, apparently.

Gibbo plays local club cricket for Quinalow in the Dalby comp. He was playing for them when I first met him 24 years ago. He went back again in 2000 for 2 seasons and has just started playing again. He plays with the SONS of some of the men he played with 20-odd years ago; back then, they would have been around his age now.........he's now the oldest in the team. They all pay him out and call him "The Old Man".
