The Girls Are Here!

The 40 Sherraloy girls arrived today, two hours later than expected due to a burst radiator hose. They made the trip on the sawdust covered decks of a JLT truck and travelled very well - it was their first time ever on a truck. In fact, they didn't want to come off. DC was very sad to see them go; he loves his cows very much and said he had a tear in his eye as he watched them leave but he's very glad that they've gone to such a good home!

First, Gibbo was delivered safely back home from CQ.

Here they come. Forty purebred and fullblood wagyu cows; a herd that we've bought feeder cattle from before. Instead of selling some of the older cows off we've decided to keep them all and will sell the angus and charolais cows and calves that we already have. Then all we'll have at the farm will be these girls, due to calve Dec-Feb.

Just managed to squeeze through the gateway.

Up past the house.

Past the garage and the chook pens.

To the yards.

No-one wanted to come out....

But eventually they wandered down.

Then dusk/twilight came and my photo taking skills abandoned me.

Some have only had their calves taken off them in the last two weeks; you can pick which ones they are - they look like me; poor and scrawny.

This one was in a hurry.

Bye bye, back up the laneway to squeeze out the gateway again.

Tomorrow, after we process them, they will go to a paddock of 3 foot high rhodes grass, gatton panic and bambatsi.

A snack before bedding down for the night.

Goodnight!
