Introducing....Rookie
On my most recent return trip from Toowoomba I called in at Z's to see if a rooster that Gibbo had seen the week before was still there. He was. I bought him. I also made an executive decision without first consulting my genetic advisor and bought myself a new buff cockerel.Five bucks. What a bargain. Here he is......please meet...........Rookie (named by Meg).
Rookie is going to take the place of Old Red. Whilst OR is a virile rooster who has sired many a buff chicken, his comb and wattles are just too red. I can't breed a better chicken if I start off on the wrong foot. Rookie is only a young cockerel but his face colouring is the more traditional (and required) mulberry. His body shape is good and I'm hoping he will breed on well. I look forward to seeing the first of his offspring.
Old Red is very red in the face.
Rookie is not.

Another Poultry Show
Will they ever end - well actually, Yes - this is the last one of the season for us. It was at Caboolture. I got up at 2.15am, couldn't sleep, and we left at 4.30am.
For Meg!This is the look you give when the realisation dawns on you that you've brought the wrong damn fowl to the show. You've gone and left your best hen at home because it was so dark this morning when you went to pack them up and you didn't take a torch - you just felt for the leg band. Bugger.
There are some mean looking, butt ugly chooks in the poultry world. Here's a small sample.
Some of them just wanted to go home - this girl was one of them. She was quite fretful for a while, trying to make her way out.
Cool dude, this one.
A couple of old timers and a young-un, watching the judging.
The young-un's cockerel.
Two of the young-un's pullets.
No ribbons or cards but a good day out and a learning experience for the young-un being up against some stiff competition.
Cricket, Cricket, Cricket
Another day at the cricket, this time at Yarraman. I wandered off early and found a nice little cafe where I pointed the heater in my direction and spent the best part of an hour and a half reading the paper whilst eating a toasted sandwich, a plate of hot chips and a cappucino. I missed the 39 runs Gibbo scored but managed to see him bowl a bit, blow his calf muscle then wicket keep for the remainder of the game, hobbling all the while. He stumped two of the opposition players (I think). I had a little read and a little snooze, snug and warm in the car. Meg and Chris drove to the coast to attend the going away party hosted by Mitch's parents. They called in at the game on their way through.
This is our friend, Dennis Lillie - true story, that's his name.
This was the day of Drew's 18th. I worked all day on the Sunday for end of month.

Another June Birthday
It was Gibbo's birthday on June 21....we celebrated twice. On the night of the 20th we went to Mary's for dinner with a group of friends. Meg made a cake with an edible transfer of his beloved Roosters team.
I wasn't feeling so well.
The kids singing Happy Birthday.
Chloe the Cat really got into the spirit of things on the morning of the 21st.
That night we went to Toowoomba to see the family. Desley made Gibbo his favourite dessert - strawberry cheesecake.
There were special trick candles that kept re-lighting themselves each time they were blown out. After the fifth attempt, they finally died.
Check out that nail polish!!!
We spent the next three days in Brisbane, Gibbo at meetings and me working on the laptop at head office (oh, and spending just a little bit of time in Mary Ryans - but I didn't buy anything except a coffee and a cookie).
