We're on our annual holiday at the Gold Coast, this year with three other families. It's a top little spot where we stay; all the units surround the pool, bbq and eating area and it's just perfect.
Meg travelled back from the south last Thursday; it was good to have her back safe and well. The room sharing is going much better than I thought it would; in fact there hasn't been a cross word. Drew goes to bed late and she gets up early so they only end up spending about 5 hours together in the room anyway.
I've been to the overly commercial and overdone shopping centre twice - once with the kids to do a Christmas recon and then once on my own to buy some gifts. I bought myself several books - Linda Woodrow's Permaculture for the Home Garden, Paula Constant's Sahara (sequel to Slow Journey South) and a Penguin Classic of The Great Gatsby.
Gibbo has been playing tennis and poker, Drew disappears for most of the day with the big group of kids and Meg spends a lot of time in the sun, tanning.
Drew went to the Greenday concert in Brisbane last night with K and J. He came home really buzzed and energized and now has total admiration for the lead singer Billy Joe or Billy something.
We've got a few more days here before we head home; apparently it's been hellishingly hot back there but we've not noticed it here; the sea breeze makes such a difference to the comfort factor:)
So when we get home it's only two weeks until Christmas. Meg is keen to make this year a really special one; instead of "throwing everything on the table" we're going to have colour co-ordination, a properly set table and some different food to the regular fare. Then Gibbo's family will arrive on Boxing Day and I haven't really given all that much thought at all, in fact none, as far as preparation goes. No doubt it will all come together as it always does.
Tonight we're having a big seafood feast - prawns, calamari and scallops - just the right type of meal to finish off a lazy day at the beach.
