Drew presented his Environmental Proposal at the WDRC meeting last Wednesday. His proposal is to reduce the amount of plastic bags in the community by encouraging businesses to offer an environmentally friendly alternative. He hopes that the Council will offer a rebate to businesses that convert to the EF bags. His presentation was well received and he got some good feedback that afternoon. He also has another idea that he's trying to get off the ground - he wants to establish a scholarship and have businesses (and Council) contribute towards sending one student a year to a SOI expedition, either to the Arctic or Antarctic. I went to watch (and support) him and we went for lunch afterwards.
He also went to his old school on Friday and gave a presentation to the Grade 11 and 12 Geography classes - who just happen to be doing a unit on the Antarctic! His Study of Religion teacher is also the Geography teacher and she asked him to go along. He might also be talking to the Grade 10-12 kids about his Gap Year and spend a day on the Grade 12 Retreat.
