Cats, Cats, Cats

On February 6, Drew, through his work at QPAC, secured house seats for the matinee performance of the musical, Cats. I thought house seats meant they would be leftovers, tucked away right on the edges, or have obstructed views behind columns etc. That couldn't have been further from the truth! Apparently house seats are kept for last minute use by the premier/visiting vips/dignitaries and, if not required, are released at short notice to staff that have applied for them - and in this instance, Drew (and I) were the lucky ones! Eight rows from the front, smack bang in the middle! Amazing!

We first saw Cats together years ago, when it was performed in a huge tent (in the round) in Queens Park in Toowoomba. The school organised a trip and Mum, Drew and I went; he might have been 10 or 11. I had been enjoying the music and songs for years prior to that visit (and ever since) so to see it again truly was magical.

Delta Goodrem played the role of Grizabella; her rendition of Memory was magnificent.

Sitting in our perfectly situated seats, seeing the set, anticipating the start - it was magical!

We had lunch and walked through the Southbank markets (I bought a little dress and got changed into it) and the public vege garden, Epicurious.

Love that show! First saw it about 1985 on Broadway....we had great seats, front row, but were stage right blind....because of the set decorations, couldn't see some of the right stage...but the way the WinterGarden was decorated, there was a hole right in front of us, that the cats came out of....I also saw the traveling show in Hartford about 15 years ago....just love it and the music...and I do own TS Eliot's book....recently read it may be made into a movie...
