The Flock Keeps Growing

We've had 3 more sets of twins and 3 singles born in the last few weeks. One birth ended in disaster when I had to despatch a ewe; her two lambs didn't survive long enough for Drew and I to be able to get them onto bottles. That's life on a farm though. Animals live and die, some longer than others.

The Sheep (Finally) Get Shorn

Our very wooly sheep went on a little journey a week ago and came home sans wool, feeling very much lighter and brighter thank you very much! We had an interesting time loading them into the trailer and ironed out a few bugs in the new loading race; remembering to secure the side race panel is a very good place to start ironing…..

My brother, Andrew, did a great job on them.

We picked up a couple of small half tanks while we were there; these will make fantastic herb/vege gardens.

Andrew has a beautiful flock of his own, mostly shedders.

Soon we'll be picking up the little black one and the black eyed one below to bring back to our flock; am looking forward to that.

All done and heading for home again, feeling much better!

The flock waiting patiently for breakfast - not that they really need the extra what with all the beautiful feed they've now got in the front paddock - but they do love a treat.

To Market

On Wednesday we sent 6 lambs to the sale at Warwick (and took 2 of IZ's over as well). It was an early morning start to get them loaded - using the cattle loading race. It was an interesting way to start the day. They sold really well and their mothers haven't missed a beat (or bleat).

The Kids are Home

No, not those ones - the other ones, Rusty and Rosie - and they've grown.

 Jude made them a hutch. They're going to live up in the pig enclosure soon.

Look at the size of the lambs! Their tails still haven't fallen off.

Number 11 - AND 12 AND 13!!

Here's baby number 11; he/she has dark markings on her neck.

When I went to feed them this morning I found - NUMBER 12 AND 13!! Another set of twins!

The first lambs have grown so much!

I think this one is number 9; she's really really white.

This one is asking me why we patched their escape hole in the fence. We actually found another spot where they were sneaking out - the wool on the barbed wire was a dead giveaway.

Now There are Ten

Drew came home for a quick visit a couple of weeks ago. To celebrate, one of the ewes gave birth! That's ten lambs now. The first few have grown a lot.
