Another Airport Pickup

Between the 3 other family members, I've spent quite a lot of time sitting in front of these doors, waiting for someone I recognise to come through.

And here he is, home again. No clean clothes and no money but happy and looking well. Typical Uni student.

We had the car packed with all his gear and went straight to the new unit from the airport. The bedroom with ensuite.

The lounge room. Sharing with two other students.

The carpet from India; destined for many a spillage I predict.

The view from the 2nd floor unit. A beautiful spot just a few minutes walk from Uni.

We took all 3 to Sizzlers for lunch then swung by the bottleshop on the way back to the unit.

And so ended our busy week - cricket on Monday, another funeral and Bruce on Wednesday and Drew home Thursday. Back to work we went on Friday. This time next week we'll be sailing up the Brisbane River heading for the ocean. Looking forward to that very much.

Leaving Geneva

Drew's last day in Geneva was Thursday. He has had a fantastic visit and has learnt what he does and doesn't want to do in his career going forward. His last day was celebrated with a walk on the lake. His last day was also spent recovering from a bout of tonsillitis caused by an infected throat; not a great way to start a Contiki tour but a visit to the doctor delivered some antibiotics and painkillers that worked a little magic.

He flew from Geneva to Vienna via Brussels for a two night stay before joining his Contiki tour of Eastern Europe.

The best creme brûlée ever.

The view from the front door of the 160 year old apartment; Picasso once lived next door.

A 4 Day Weekend in France

Waiting with Freya before her class. I love this. I think it's very art house. Freya is a friend from Uni in Brisbane. She's doing a semester overseas.

A Little Tour of Drew's World

Drew went to France on Sunday for lunch with some of the people he works with! A half hour bus ride and a twenty minute walk and he was at the right place. "Great food, great cheese and great wine" was the verdict.

A batch of photos arrived from Geneva on Monday.

Palais Wilson - former League of Nations.

News from Geneva

Drew walked in the pouring rain to get to Palais Wilson, the current headquarters for the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights. It used to be the old League of Nations headquarters. The conventions for the Rights of the Child are held there.

He attended the evaluation of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was very interesting. Apparently they were asked quite a lot of questions.

He has attended meetings with the Mexican, Czech Republic and Bangladeshi UN representatives to present ERI's proposed questions and recommendations for the UPR sessions. He has been asked some questions that he's had to respond to and follow up on.

He's getting used to shopping in a supermarket where most things are labelled in French. He's cooking for himself, getting ready for this year living in a unit. He's booked a 4 day weekend in Paris at the end of the month, staying with a friend from Uni.

It's a great life hey?

Meanwhile, here in Geneva

It's still raining and rather cold. Drew has been out for a stroll around the lake, been grocery shopping and found the UN.
